ToneRite is now available from Hobgoblin Music.

The ToneRite® is the world's most advanced and premier play-in device. Significantly accelerating the play-in process and providing increased tone, playability, and balance, the ToneRite makes all of this available in a nearly silent, high quality, and portable manner.

One of the secrets of great sounding vintage instruments is the fact that they have been played-in for thousands of hours.

The ToneRite accelerates the play-in process by using a set of sub-sonic frequencies to simulate the same physics as long term playing.

Simply attach the ToneRite whenever you are not playing and expect to hear a dramatic increase in resonance, balance and range after only a week's worth of use.

ToneRite was started in 2007 by Agapitus Lye, known as Augi, a musician and electrical engineer who had been working on systems for unmanned intelligence drones at Prioria Robotics in Gainesville, when he bought a new cello. Too busy to break it in himself, he remembered a newspaper article about a museum in Italy that paid musicians to keep its priceless instruments in shape. Inspired, he began to tinker.

The rudimentary device he put together improved the instrument’s tone enough after a month that the cello’s maker, or luthier, encouraged Mr. Lye to patent and market it.

With the help of Mr. Frankel and Hans Yeakel, guitarists and engineers who also worked at Prioria, Mr. Lye has been refining his invention ever since. “You can’t take a cheap plywood guitar and turn it into a vintage Martin,” said Ryan Frankel, chief executive of ToneRite. “But the fullness and the warmth of a good instrument will really come alive.”

Any fine stringed instrument is built of precisely calibrated and meticulously joined wooden parts, all of which must “learn” to vibrate sympathetically. Mr. Frankel said he and his colleagues had experimented to pinpoint the frequencies to speed that process and how best to transfer them to the instrument.

“The difference is amazing. It holds notes MUCH better and, I may be crazy, but it feels better. It's more of an inspiring guitar now. “

"I'll say I think it's great! I used it on my Gemunder(1884) and my Denis Cormier(2002). It made both instruments sound their very best no matter what climate or humidity my tours brought me to. The more I used it the better they got...not just a little bit, but creates a definite, noticeable, positive audible difference."
